About Joanne

I received my accreditation as a Certified Yoga Therapist from
The International Association of Yoga Therapists.
I first started doing yoga at 15 with Kareen Zebroff Yoga on TV in 1975; I loved the calming and centering effect it had on me and my body. A couple of years later I learned to meditate and practiced Transcendental meditation; I was experiencing acute social anxiety and looking for a way to help myself.

Over the next 40 years Yoga and various somatic and movement practices also helped me move through depression and injuries including referral pain (sharp shooting pain) in the arm and shoulders and later in the leg (sciatica) and with back pain from years of gardening and the physicality involved in raising six children and running a dog boarding kennel.

My first job teaching yoga was in 1997 at The Athletic Centre in London, Ontario. Believe it or not I had 90 students! Everyone wanted to try it. I was self-taught and had no experience or formal training but I wanted to teach it. Since then yoga has become more mainstream and I've accumulated thousands of hours of training and experience teaching yoga to all ages, and physical conditions.

My immense curiosity about life and how we heal our mind and body led me to also study mindfulness meditation, energy healing, nutrition, and medicinal herbs; I'm also a Level III Reiki Practitioner and Chartered Herbalist.

My own personal growth was accelerated when I discovered Avatar® in 2006, an empowering belief management course and self-development program and in 2007, after taking the advanced courses, I became a Licensed Avatar® Master delivering the nine day International Avatar Course four times a year in Florida for six years, with a network of Avatar Masters from around the world.

Over the last several years I developed a special interest in spinal health and sciatica and now offer workshops and lectures on this topic. If you would like me to  present to your group please give me a call at 705-888-9686 or email Joanne@InnerJourney.ca
