Virtual communal yoga class for mental and physical health:
Make yoga a part of your weekly routine in this time of seclusion. Routines sustain our psyche. They keep us grounded. Sangha (community) reminds us that we are not alone, no matter how lonely we may feel.

I`m Joanne Pineau, a Certified Yoga Therapist and owner of Inner Journey Yoga Therapy. I work with people over 55 with back issues. I specialize in spinal health which includes sciatica, kyphosis (ihunch), stenosis, scoliosis, posture improvement and functional aging.

 

APPROACH

I use somatic movements and a therapeutic approach to classic yoga exercises in the Viniyoga Lineage, as a very effective form of neuro-muscular retraining that alleviates chronic pain and improves physical functioning, posture and mobility.

This approach stands out from other forms of bodywork (acupuncture, massage, chiropractic) in that it relies upon your participation to provide sensory feedback, not just to muscles and nerves, but to the brain.

 

BENEFITS

  • Effectively treats chronic musculo-skeletal contraction that results from stress, trauma, and repetitive movement that may cause back pain, TMJ, scoliosis, sciatica, knee, hip and shoulder pain.

  • Allows the brain to recalibrate the co-ordination of muscles used in daily activities like walking and bending.

  • Improves posture, circulation, and gradually rebuilds body strength, flexibility and improves movement patterns without making a pre-existing condition worse. 

  • You will feel positive changes almost immediately in your state of mind and body.  

EFFECTIVENESS

The course of treatment is often shorter and more long lasting than physical therapy programs, chiropractic or manual soft tissue therapies. Can also be used to supplement the effectiveness of these programs.

OPTIONS

I work with individuals one-on-one and in small groups in my home yoga studio in Thornbury and offer group programs throughout the year. Some of my programs are also offered in Meaford through the Recreation Department and at Tone Studio in Owen Sound.​
